MediSprout featured in Therapists Unchained Podcast

MediSprout founder and CEO gets candid about the dire state of EHRs today, and the ethics needed to make the technology work better for providers and patients.

rivate equity firms have been quietly consolidating the electronic health record (EHR) sector for years, and clinicians are feeling the squeeze. Prices are climbing, features are bloating up, and the software meant to support patient care is starting to feel more like a tool for somebody else’s agenda.

In a new episode of Therapists Unchained, host Sivie Suckerman sits down with MediSprout founder and CEO Dr. Sam Virk and MediSprout COO Ben Putland for a frank conversation about what’s broken in EHR technology today and how to fix it.

Dr. Virk and Putland argue that most EHR platforms have lost sight of the problems providers are actually facing, including burnout, low reimbursement rates, and administrative burdens to name just a few. Instead of building tools to solve those problems, much of the sector is pushing provider retention, feature upselling, and profit margins; cornerstones of extraction economics.

MediSprout was built with virtually the opposite mentality; starting with understanding and addressing the actual needs of the practice, provider, and patient. It’s a philosophy that is grounded in therapeutic ethics which influences every decision about platform design.

And what about this price point of free? Free for whom, and at what cost? These are questions all providers should be asking, and Dr. Virk and Ben Putland provide answers that are surprisingly simple, if not a bit embarrassing for the SimplePractices of the world.
